Cooking Tips and Notes for Chocolate Covered Oreos

Creating chocolate covered Oreos is not just about dipping a cookie; it’s about crafting a delightful experience that brings joy to both the maker and the receiver. Picture this: a friend’s birthday party, and you surprise them with your homemade treats, earning kudos for your culinary skills—it’s a win-win!

Selecting the Right Chocolate

The type of chocolate you choose can make or break your chocolate covered Oreos. I recommend using high-quality melting chocolate or chocolate wafers, which melt smoothly and set reliably. Dark chocolate adds a touch of sophistication, while white chocolate offers a sweet contrast. Don’t forget to add a bit of vegetable oil if your chocolate is too thick—it will help achieve that beautiful, glossy finish.

Dipping Technique

For an even coating, use a fork or a dipping tool. Consider gently shaking off the excess chocolate after dipping to avoid any blobs. If you’re feeling creative, try drizzling some contrasting chocolate on top for an extra flair.

Cool and Set Properly

Let your chocolate covered Oreos cool on parchment paper. Setting them in the fridge briefly can speed up the hardening process and keep those lovely shapes intact.

Personal Touches

Feel free to embellish! Sprinkles, crushed nuts, or even a pinch of sea salt can elevate your cookies, making them memorable and uniquely yours. Each bite will have that special touch of love!

Description

Delicious chocolate dipped oreo cookies, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package oreo cookies (about 36 cookies)
  • 24 ounces candy melts
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare baking sheet. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper. Set aside.
  2. Melt chocolate. Melt chocolate according to package directions. I do this in my microwave in 15-second increments, and stir until smooth. I like to melt two different kinds of chocolate (white and dark chocolate in two separate bowls) but you can use just one type of chocolate. Before dipping, you can also place some parchment under the bowl of chocolate so if any chocolate drips it’s quick to clean up.
  3. Dip the Oreos. Using a fork, place one oreo into the bowl of melted chocolate. Flip over the oreo, so it gets completely covered. Lift the oreo out of the chocolate with the fork, and tap on the side of the bowl and shake it gently back and forth letting the excess drip off into the bowl. Set onto the baking sheet.
  4. Decorate. And if adding sprinkles, sprinkle on now before chocolate hardens. Or instead of adding sprinkles, you can drizzle on a second chocolate. Let the first chocolate cool, then drizzle on an alternate chocolate (so if dipping in dark chocolate, then I drizzle on white chocolate, but you can use the same type of chocolate or skip the drizzle). Let the cookies sit until completely dry.

Notes

  • Using two types of chocolate adds flavor and visual appeal.
  • If chocolate drips, place parchment beneath the bowl for easy cleanup.
